How Many Security Guards Should You Have?
How many guards do you have on any given shift…and how do you make that determination? Robert and Manny discuss what considerations you should make when determining how many guards you should have.
The answer is not always straight forward. There is no specific industry formula, but we have some very practical considerations for you use when you determine what that number is. In some cities there are actually mandates and regulations that require venues have a minimum number of security guards on staff. Do you know what the industry standard is? As an owner or operator you have multiple factors you need to evaluate:

Often times, staffing levels become a matter of budgets and trying to make target cost percentages rather than the safety of your business, your guests and your employees. We also need to consider the non-tangible consequences of not adequately staffing and scheduling of your security team. What stress levels are you putting on your team when you under staff? Are those causes for unwanted behavior or reactions by guards when an incident arises? Also, what is the perception of your guests? Cutting corners or running thin can often have a negative effect on your overall sales potential or, worse yet, unwanted criminal and civil liability.
